Video Transcription:

There is a new and exciting procedure for the treatment of anal fistula and this procedure is called LIFT. L-I-F-T. It stands for Ligation of Intersphincteric Fistula Tract. Unlike a traditional fistulotomy, which involves a risk of incontinence, LIFT is not associated with an appreciable incidence of postoperative incontinence and is an exciting new procedure for the treatment of anal fistulas. Under sedation, the fistula tract itself is identified and simply divided. The musculature around the anal opening is left intact and hopefully the fistula will spontaneously resolve and close. There is very little risk of incontinence and it is a safe and increasingly proven effective procedure. Should you have any questions, please ask or consult any of the board certified surgeons.
